
Gardner-Webb Swimming Wraps Up Weekend at the 2013 All-N.C. Invitational on Saturday

Greensboro, N.C. Gardner-Webb's men's swimming team finished in sixth place in the team standings, while the Runnin' Bulldogs ended the weekend with a seventh place team standing after the final day of the 2013 All-N.C. Invitational, hosted by N.C. State University.
To open the morning session, GWU earned an eighth place finish in the women's 200 medley relay. Kaylee McCallan (28.09), Charity Bryum (30.83), Mary O'Doherty (25.49), and Giorgie Graves (24.52) teamed up for a time of 1:48.93, and the quartet of April Niccolai, Sam Shelley, Adél Kiss, and Faith Kempf added a 15th place showing and a time of 1:51.98.
In the men's 200 medley relay, Gardner-Webb took 10th (1:36.20) and 11th (1:36.28), led by the combination of Connor Bos (24.42), Jordan Denmark (26.61), Tate Warden (23.80), and Cole Hickey (21.37). Colin James (24.61), Brandon Searle (27.84), Matt Anderson (22.89), and Nathan Lile (20.94) teamed up to take 11th in the event.
CJay Wiley (Savannah, Ga.) led GWU in the women's 400 I.M. The junior raced to a time of 4:42.21, good for 13th in the event.
In the men's 400 I.M., Lile (Waynesville, N.C.) achieved a 14th place finish, touching the wall in 4:12.06. Luke Denman (Greenville, S.C.) added a 19th place showing for the Runnin' Bulldogs in the event, as the sophomore closed fast to finish with a time of 4:16.50.
Graves, a sophomore from Riverview, Fla., raced to a seventh place finish in the women's 100 fly, touching the wall at 57.31. Kiss, a freshman from Székesfehérvár, Hungary, finished with a time of 1:00.50, 19th fastest in the event.
Searle (Melbourne, Fla.) led Gardner-Webb in the men's 100 fly. The junior's 19th place finish in the event came thanks to a time of 53.26 in the event.
The women's 200 free saw a solid weekend continue for Kempf, a senior from Sterling, Kan. Kempf achieved a time of 1:56.52, edging East Carolina's Megan Rossi (1:56.65) in the event to place 15th.
Two Runnin' Bulldogs cracked the top 10 in the men's 200 free, including Warden, a sophomore from Charleston, W.Va. Warden, who finished 17th (1:46.25) was joined by McKay, a freshman from Birmingham, Ala., who took 19th place (1:46.50) in the event.
In the women's 100 breast, Byrum (Winston-Salem, N.C.) gave GWU a ninth place finish, timing in at 1:07.19.
Denmark (Raleigh, N.C.) led GWU in the men's 100 breast. The senior sprinted to a time of 1:00.71 in the event.
GWU was paced in the women's 100 back by Niccolai and McCallan, who finished back-to-back in 24th (1:01.49) and 25th (1:01.60), respectively.
Bos, a freshman from Holland Mich., led GWU in the men's 100 back with a time of 54.36 (17th). James, a junior from Greensboro, N.C., finished 22nd in the event with a time of 54.92.
Two Runnin' Bulldogs scored top 20 finishes in the women's 1,650 free, led by sophomore Madi Dinsmore (New Ipswich, N.H.). Dinsmore took 10th in the event, pacing to a time of 18:25.13, and junior Kristen Ellison (Cary, N.C.) finished in 17th place after finishing at 19:40.32.
Gardner-Webb's Sam Wilson (New Bern, N.C.) and Andy Watts (Sarasota, Fla.) recorded times of 17:06.37 (11th) and 17:06.65 (12th), respectively, in the men's 1,650 free.
Niccolai (Naperville, Ill.) posted the 20th best time in the women's 200 back. The sophomore achieved a time of 2:12.33 in the event.
In the men's 200 back, Denmark raced to a time of 1:57.34, good for 13th. Wilson (1:59.99), Bos (2:00.28), and Kallam (2:00.62) finished 25th, 26th, and 27th in the event, respectively.
Ballinger earned a 19th place finish in the women's 100 free, touching the wall at 54.87 as the fastest in the event for the Runnin' Bulldogs. Kiss finished in 55.23, 24th fastest in the event.
In the men's 100 free, McKay finished 14th to lead GWU, achieving a time of 47.86. Fellow freshman Dyer was 24th (49.08) for GWU.
In the women's 200 breast, Shelley cracked the top 20 for the Runnin' Bulldogs. leading the way with a time of 2:30.36 (19th).
Denman led GWU in the men's 200 breast, racing to a time of 2:18.47. Freshman Andrew Linzie (Monroe, Ga.) touched the wall at 2:20.12 for Gardner-Webb in the event.
In the women's 200 fly, Graves (16th) and Kempf (20th) cracked the top 20. Graves recorded a time of 2:10.17, and Kempf swam 2:12.58 in the event.
Lile (Waynesville, N.C.) raced to an eighth place finish in the men's 200 fly from lane eight, touching the wall at 1:54.49. Senior Cody Meyers (Mobile, Ala.) was next for GWU with a time of 2:02.51.
GWU finished in 14th place in the 400 free relay. O'Doherty (56.63), Graves (55.00), Kempf (54.16), and Ballinger (54.89) teamed up to record a time of 3:40.68.
In the men's 400 free relay, Gardner-Webb finished 12th with a time of 3:12.30. McKay (48.59), Lile (46.50), Dyer (49.20), and Warden 48.01) combined to close the night strong for the Runnin' Bulldog men.
Gardner-Webb's next competition marks its first dual meet of the 2013-14 season, as the Runnin' Bulldogs travel to take on Queens College (Charlotte, N.C.) on Friday, October 18. GWU's meet against the Royals is scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start time.
