Charlotte, N.C. - Gardner-Webb sophomore libero Anna Pashkova has been chosen as the Big South Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the League announced today.
Pashkova helped lead Gardner-Webb to a 3-0 record last week with 54 digs and 5.0 digs per set in Big South matches. In GWU's five-set win over Big South preseason favorite Liberty, she registered 23 digs. She followed that up with a 27-dig performance over Radford.
Behind Pashkova's defensive efforts over the weekend, GWU posted back-to-back 3-2 five set wins over Liberty and Radford marked the first time in the Runnin' Bulldogs six-year history in the Big South that a GWU team has beaten two straight conference foes on back-to-back days.
The back-to-back 3-2 five set wins last week also marked the first time in the Runnin' Bulldogs' 14-year NCAA Division I history that GWU has recorded two straight five set wins.
On the season, Pashkova leads the Runnin' Bulldogs with 339 digs overall and with a digs per set average of 4.77 on the season, which also ranks fifth overall in the Big South.
The weekly conference award is the first of Pashkova's career, as the sophomore becomes the second Gardner-Webb player to receive a conference weekly award this season joining junior setter Heather Feldman who was named the Big South Player of the Week back on September 16th.
