Gardner-Webb Track & Field Preparing for Pre-Conference Tune up at Carolina's Cup on Friday

Boiling Springs, N.C. - Gardner-Webb track & field will travel to Rock Hill, S.C. on Friday, April 12, where the Runnin' Bulldogs will compete at the Carolina's Cup, hosted by Winthrop University at the Irwin Belk Track.
Friday's track & field meet comes a week prior to the 2013 Big South Outdoor Championships, to be held April 18-20 in Lynchburg, Va.
This Outdoor season, Gardner-Webb's women's track & field squad has stacked the top tier of the Big South rankings, including senior Ivana Hughes (3rd 800 m, 2:14.98 ; 5th 400 m, 57.34), senior Taylor Cook (3rd pole vault, 3.55 m), freshman Megan Melton (7th pole vault, 3.35 m), senior Ashlei Alexander (2nd hammer throw, 53.09 m), senior Yazzming Lee (10th hammer throw, 46.97 m), freshman Sarah Perkins (7th 400 m H, 1:04.34), freshman Kaylan Myers (10th high jump, 1.55 m), junior Jasmine Miles (7th discus throw, 41.05 m), junior Kyntoya Hansford (12th discus throw, 41.05 m), Katie Spiro (9th javelin throw, 34.56 m), and junior Kristen Hurley (5th heptathlon, 3,464).
A host of Runnin' Bulldogs on the men's track & field squad have also earned high Big South rankings in their respective events entering this weekend's tune up meet, including freshman Josh Wembolua (9th 110 m H, 15.08), freshman Alex Young (2nd shot put, 17.18 m ; 2nd discus, 50.53 m ; 2nd hammer throw, 59.01 m), freshman A.J. White (11th shot put, 13.96 m ; 8th discus, 44.13 m' ; 10th hammer throw, 42.52 m), sophomore Nathan Padfield (8th hammer throw, 47.62 m), junior Mike McClay (14th 5,000 m, 15:12.73), redshirt freshman Tyler Samotis (2nd pole vault, 4.80 m), freshman Tyler Marsengill (10th, 4.25 m), junior Terry Davis (6th triple jump, 14.27 m), freshman Chuboy Umeadi (9th triple jump, 13.52 m), and sophomore Ben Bell (3rd decathlon, 5,957).
