Gardner-Webb Set to Compete at Duke Invitational April 5-6 in Durham, N.C.

Boiling Springs, N.C. - Coming off an impressive weekend at the Winthrop Invitational, highlighted by two school records and four individual events winners, Gardner-Webb's track & field squad will compete at the Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C. on Friday, April 5 through Saturday, April 6.
The Duke Invitational will take place at Wallace Wade Stadium, and according to www.goduke.com, the event will play host to over 1,000 competitors affiliated with 50 different institutions.
In Rock Hill S.C. for last weekend's Winthrop Invitational, GWU was led by individual wins from four different student-athletes. Taylor Cook, a senior from Boone, N.C., won the women's pole vault after clearing 3.50 m during the event. Junior Mike McClay (Lawrenceville, Ga.) pulled away to win the men's 5,000 m run, finishing with a time of 15:12.73.
Redshirt freshman Tyler Samotis (Hendersonville, N.C.) took first place in the men's pole vault, giving the Runnin' Bulldogs a sweep of the pole vault events at the Winthrop Invitational. Samotis cleared 4.55 m in the event. Fellow freshman Alex Young (LaVergne, Tenn.) enjoyed a stellar weekend highlighted by a win in the men's shot put.
Young's performance in the shot put (17.18 m) set a school record, as did senior Ashlei Alexander's (Queens, N.Y.) in the women's hammer throw. Alexander, who threw 53.09 m in the event, finished in third place.
