CHARLOTTE,
N.C. - The Big South Conference announced its baseball tournament
bracket on Saturday afternoon, with Gardner-Webb earning the No. 6
seed after its weekend sweep of Presbyterian.
The
Runnin' Bulldogs (28-25-1, 12-11 Big South) finished a half game
behind Liberty for the fifth slot and will face off with No. 3 High
Point on Tuesday in the second game of the tournament in Lynchburg,
Va.
First
pitch for the GWU-High Point contest will be 30 minutes following
the conclusion of the 9:30 am opener between No. 2 Coastal Carolina
and No. 7 Longwood.
Gardner-Webb
has made a run in each of the last two Big South Conference
Tournaments, rallying to play Coastal Carolina in the championship
round in Lexington, Va., in 2011 and finishing third last season on
a walk-off loss to Liberty that prevented the program's third trip
to a conference tournament title game since 2008.
High
Point took two of three from Gardner-Webb last week in High Point,
with all three games tightly contested. GWU elimitated the Panthers
from the 2011 Big South Conference Tournament in the two teams'
lone postseason meeting to date.
All of
the tournament games will be broadcast live on the Big South
Network (bigsouthsports.com). The title game will air on ESPN3
(WatchESPN.com).
