Young Competes in Shot Put on Friday at the NCAA East Regional

Greensboro, N.C. - Alex Young competed on day two of the NCAA East Regional, placing 37th in the men's shot put in the first of two scheduled events for the Runnin' Bulldog freshman.
Young (LaVergne, Tenn.) achieved the 37th best distance in the shot put, throwing 16.22 m in his first-ever NCAA Regional performance.
Already the school record-holder in the men's shot put (17.18 m), Young's performance comes after earning All-Conference honors in the event at 2013 Big South Outdoor Championships earlier this season.
Young gets another crack at punching a ticket to the NCAA Championships (June 5-8; Eugene, Ore.) tomorrow when he competes in the men's weight throw. The freshman threw a personal best 62.09 m to win the event at Big South Championships.
Young owns the 19th best men's hammer throw mark heading into the East Regional meet. The top 12 finishers in the event qualify for the NCAA Championship meet.
