
GWU's Meenaghan and Beres Named to College Sports Madness 2013 Big South All-Conference Teams

Boiling Springs, N.C. - Gardner-Webb junior second-baseman Samantha Meenaghan and sophomore outfielder Kellie Beres were both named to the College Sports Madness 2013 Big South All-Conference Teams, it was announced Thursday morning at www.collegesportsmadness.com.
Meenaghan, who was named to the Big South All-Conference First-Team for the third straight year earlier this week, was named to the Madness 2013 Big South All-Conference First-Team for the second straight season. The junior, who was a College Sports Madness Preseason All-Conference honoree prior to the start of this season, finished the regular season ranked second in the conference with 42 hits and a batting average of .477 in Conference play. Meenaghan enters tournament play this weekend currently ranked fourth in the Big South and first on the team with a .430 batting average on the year overall, which also ranks second for the highest individual batting average in a single season in GWU's Division I single-season record books.
The second-baseman from Atlantic Beach, Fla. ranks seventh in the League overall and first on the team with 64 hits on the season, while also finishing fourth in Big South play with 55 total bases. Meenaghan finished the conference regular season ranked in the top-10 in League play with 21 runs scored and an on-base percentage of .438 percent in conference action. The 2011 Big South Freshman of the Year leads GWU with an on-base percentage of .449 on the season and has a team-high 29 runs scored and 86 total bases on the year.
Beres was named to the College Sports Madness Big South All-Conference Second-Team, as the sophomore ranks second in the NCAA with an average of 0.38 sacrifice hits per game. Beres sits in 12th-place in the Big South and is second on the team with an overall battering average of .349 on the season, while leading the team with nine stolen bases on the year. The left fielder also leads the team with 18 sacrifice bunts on the season and is second on the team in both runs with 25 runs scored and in hits with 44 on the year. Beres, who also has four outfield assists on the season, is fourth on the team with a .373 slugging percentage and fifth with a .366 on-base percentage, while hitting .369 with runners on base on the season.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will take on No. 2 Campbell at 5 p.m. on Thursday evening in round one of the 2013 Big South Softball Championship presented by Musco Sports Lighting in Rock Hill, S.C.
