Alex Young to Throw at 2013 Pan Am Junior Championships, Held August 23-25 in Medellin, Colombia

Boiling Springs, N.C. - Gardner-Webb's Alex Young will make school history this week, as he becomes the first Runnin' Bulldog to compete at Pan American Junior Track & Field Championships.
The 2013 Pan Am Junior Championships will be held August 23-25 in Medellin, Colombia.
Young will compete in the hammer throw, his signature event in his debut on the international stage. The LaVergne, Tenn. native has already had a season to remember, setting three school records and winning two Big South titles, including one in the hammer throw during the 2013 Outdoor season.
Young took first place in the event at 2013 Big South Outdoor Championships behind a personal best distance of 62.09 m. At 2012-13 BSC Indoor Championships, Young won the weight throw and set a school record by throwing 20.72 m.
Young's freshman campaign also included school records and All-Conference performances in both the Indoor shot put (16.52 m) and Outdoor shot put (17.18 m).
To qualify for 2013 Pan Am Junior Championships, Young placed second at 2013 USA Outdoor Track & Field Junior Championships (Des Moines, Iowa). Young achieved a personal best 69.14 m throwing the junior implement in Des Moines.
