Medellin, Colombia - Rising sophomore Alex Young became the
first ever Gardner-Webb track & field athlete to compete at Pan
American Junior Championships on Friday, as he finished in tenth
place in the men's hammer throw.
Young (LaVergne, Tenn.) earned a top 10 finish by throwing 58.91
m in the junior implement, just shy of ninth place finisher Giordis
Alvarez's (Venezuela) 59.46 m.
Friday's performance was possible thanks to a career best throw
at 2013 USA Junior Nationals. A two-time Big South champion as a
freshman, Young finished second at Junior Nationals, held in Des
Moines, Iowa, to qualify for Pan Am Junior Championships.
