September 11, 2013 | Softball
Boiling Springs, N.C. - Gardner-Webb softball head coach Tom Cole is excited to announce that former Runnin' Bulldog softball standout Christa Fullwood will be joining the staff as an assistant coach for the 2013-14 season.
"I am very excited that Christa Fullwood has joined the Gardner-Webb softball staff. Christa had an outstanding career at Gardner-Webb, not just because she had God-given talent, but because she worked hard and was a student of the game, commented Cole. "She was always wanting to learn more, and as a result she continued to get better and better each and every year. Christa is also a woman of faith who genuinely cares about the people around her. She will be an asset on and off the field. We are very blessed to have her back."
Fullwood, who was a two-time Big South All-Conference Team selection (2009 & 2010) at GWU, returns to her alma-mater after spending the past two seasons as a graduate assistant coach at Frostburg State University.
In her two years on staff at Frostburg State, the Bobcats won 56 games overall and made back-to-back CAC Championship game appearances. Fullwood was a standout student-athlete at Gardner-Webb from 2007-10, as she re-wrote the softball career record books and took home numerous honors. The lefty also holds single-records in batting average (.460 in 2009), total bases (106 in 2010), slugging percentage (.719 in 2009) and walks (27 in 2010).
Fullwood was named to the NFCA Mid-Atlantic All-Region Second-Team, the Big South All-Tournament Team and was a Lowes Senior CLASS Award Finalist her senior season.
She was also named to both the Big South All-Tournament Team and the NCCSIA Softball University Division All-State Team twice (2009 & 2010), was a three-time NFCA Scholar-Athlete (2008, 2009 & 2010), a two-time Big South All-Academic Team member (2009 & 2010), a two-time Big South Presidential Honor Roll member (2009 & 2010) and a 2008 Atlantic Sun All-Academic Team member.
Fullwood, who was a two-time GWU Offensive MVP (2009 & 2010), was ranked in the top-10 nationally and in the Big South with a .460 batting average her junior season in 2009 and was also named the GWU Female Athlete of the Year.
Prior to transferring to Gardner-Webb in 2007-08, Fullwood played both basketball and softball at Mars Hill College as a freshman in 2006-07. At Mars Hill, Fullwood was a Dean's List student both semesters and was named to the South Atlantic Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll.
Fullwood graduated from Gardner-Webb in May of 2010 with a double major in Psychology and Sociology, finishing with a cumulative 3.69 GPA.
