Lile And Oglesby Lead Gardner-Webb Swimming At NC College Invitational

GREENSBORO, N.C.- Freshman Lauren Oglesby (Woodstock, Ga. / Etowah H.S.) finished second in the 1,650 yard freestyle (17:11.83) and junior Nathan Lile (Waynesville, N.C. / Homeschool) took third in the 200 yard backstroke (1:50.95) to lead the Gardner-Webb swimming team at the NC College Invitational held on Friday and Saturday

The Runnin' Bulldogs men's and women's squads each had impressive team finishes in the first meet of the season as they each finished in fourth place. The GWU men's team totaled 892 points, while the women's squad totaled 883 points. North Carolina State took home the team titles in both the men's and women's competition.

London Schumacher (Waynesville, N.C./Tuscola H.S.) had a strong swim for the Runnin' Bulldogs in the 400 IM, as she finished in fifth place (4:30.32).

Kelsey Williams (North Augusta, S.C./North Augusta H.S.) finished the shortest event of the meet, the 50 free, in fifth place (24.36).

Kaylee McCallan (Melbourne, Fla./Viera H.S.), Charity Byrum (Winston-Salem, N.C./Lewisville Christian), Mary O'Doherty (Charlotte, N.C./Hopewell H.S.) and Williams all swam in the 200 medley relay that finished in fifth place (1:47.94).

In his first collegiate meet, Andy Watts (Sarasota, Fla./Sarasota H.S.) put together an exciting swim in the longest event of the meet, the 1,650 free, as he finished in fifth place with a time of 16:48.74.

Gardner-Webb returns to the pool for its next meet on Oct. 18 when it travels to Baltimore, Md to compete in the UMBC Quad meet against UMBC, NJIT, and VMI.
