Al-Gashamy, Gurser Garner Big South Postseason Honors

BOILING SPRINGS --- Junior Ali Al-Gashamy (Kristiansand, Norway) has been named to the Big South All-Conference Team for the second consecutive season, garnering second team honors as Patrick Gurser (Frankfurt, Germany) earned a spot on the Big South All-Academic Team.
A native of Kristiansand, Norway, Al-Gashamy has put together perhaps his best season in a Gardner-Webb jersey this fall, leading the team in goals (seven), assists (six) and points (20) while finishing the regular season tied for fourth in the Big South in points. The junior forward enjoyed a tremendous three-week run of form earlier this season, scoring five goals and adding three assists in a six-match stretch that included a season-high four points with a goal and two assists in the 5-1 win over Brevard.
Al-Gashamy is currently averaging more than one point per match in his career at Gardner-Webb, ending the regular season with 11 goals, 13 assists and 35 points in 34 career appearances in a Runnin' Bulldog shirt.
Gurser caps a strong two-year career with the Runnin' Bulldogs with one goal, two assists and four points from the center of midfield, converting his only attempt from the spot at Longwood in Gardner-Webb's regular season finale.
The Frankfurt, Germany native has appeared in 33 matches over the last two seasons, totaling two goals, four assists and eight points while making 30 starts. Gurser is currently maintaining a 3.42 grade point average in the MBA program at Gardner-Webb.
Coastal Carolina's Ricky Garbanzo was named the league's Attacking Player of the Year, while the Chanticleers' Shawn McLaws garnered Big South Defensive Player of the Year honors for the second straight season. Radford's Marc Reeves was named the Big South Coach of the Year, as Campbell's Bradley Farias earned Freshman of the Year recognition. Stephen Hudgens of Radford was named the league's Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Gardner-Webb is expected to return 18 letter-winners from this year's squad, including rising seniors Arjun Jung (London, England), Nathan Rose (Bristol, England), Dustin Peyton (Greensboro, N.C.), Craig Swaby (Ware, England), Bryce Wells (Marietta, Ga.), Nathan Cook (Casar, N.C.) and Al-Gashamy.
