
Three Place Top 5 as GWU Track & Field Opens the Outdoor Season at the Coastal Carolina Invitational

Conway, S.C. - Jordan Davis, Josh Wembolua, and A.J. White recorded Top 5 individual finishes over the weekend in Gardner-Webb's 2014 Outdoor Track & Field season-opener at the Coastal Carolina Invitational.
Davis, a freshman from Atlanta, Ga., raced to a 5th place finish in the women's 400 m dash in the first Outdoor meet of her collegiate career. Davis crossed the finish line at 57.65 in Heat 2's fastest time.
The top four finishers in the women's 400 m dash ran in Heat 1.
In the women's 200 m dash, Davis added a 17th place showing for Gardner-Webb, finishing with a time of 25.52.
Sophomore Sarah Perkins also recorded a Top 10 individual performance over the weekend. On Saturday, Perkins (Gorham, Maine) raced to a time of 1:05.38 in the women's 400 m hurdles, good for 9th place in the event.
In the women's hammer throw, freshman Sarah Mitchell (Roswell, Ga.) scored a 10th place finish, tossing 43.68 m on her first toss for her best distance in the event. Senior Stephanie Hamilton (Blair, Neb.) added a 22nd place showing for GWU in the event, as she tossed 39.14 m.
Mitchell added a 9th place showing in the women's discus throw with a distance of 37.97 m, and Hamilton tossed 36.32 m in the event to take 12th place. The pair also competed in the women's shot put, with Mitchell capturing 5th place in the event (13.33 m) and Hamilton grabbing 19th place behind a distance of 11.84 m.
In the women's high jump, freshman Kayin Mujahid (Philadelphia, Pa.) tied for 13th in the event's 'A' flight, rising up to clear 1.60 m. Sophomore Kaylan Myers (Lexington, N.C.) added a 4th place finish in the high jump's 'B' flight after topping 1.55 m.
Sophomore pole vaulter Kailey Robinson turned in a Top 10 performance in the 'B' final at the Coastal Carolina Inviational on day one. The Connelly Springs, N.C. cleared 3.05 m in the women's pole vault, good for 9th place overall in the event.
Gardner-Webb got a great performance from Wembolua (Matthews, N.C.) on day one. The sophomore recorded a top 5 finish in the men's 400 m hurdles with a time of 57.08, placing 4th in the event.
Seaver Wait, a 6-7 freshman from Candler, N.C. took 3rd place in the 'B' flight of the men's high jump. The Runnin' Bulldog rookie cleared 1.85 m in the event.
Senior Josiah Stanton-Brooks (Seattle, Wash.) raced to a Top 10 finish in the men's 400 m dash, crossing the finish line at 49.36.
In the men's 200 m dash, senior Richard Jules (Tampa, Fla.) raced to a 6th place finish, leading the Runnin' Bulldogs with a time of 51.79 out of Heat 1.
Junior Ben Bell (Greensboro, N.C.) placed 7th in the men's 110 m hurdles, sprinting to a time of 17.01 in the event.
In the men's triple jump, senior Terry Davis (Wilson, N.C.) placed 12th with a distance of 13.85 m.
Sophomore Tyler Marsengill (Rock Hill, S.C.) tied for 9th place in the men's pole vault, achieving a height of 4.15 m in the event.
Three men's throwers cracked the Top 15 in the hammer throw, led by junior Nathan Padfield's 7th place showing. The LaVergne, Tenn. native tossed 54.49 m, senior Carson Sears (Suwanee, Ga.) placed 8th with a distance of 53.61 m, and White (Hurricane, W.Va.) was 15th with a throw of 45.39 m.
Both White and Sears placed in the Top 10 of the men's discus throw. White took 6th place in the event by tossing 44.99 m, and Sears garnered 8th place with a distance of 44.25 m.
In the men's shot put, freshman Jordan Smith (Chesterfield, Va.) led GWU by placing 13th with a distance of 14.06 m. Sears added the 22nd-best distance in the event at 13.48 m.
