Gardner-Webb Trio Earns Big South Indoor Track & Field Yearly Honors

Boiling Springs, N.C. - The Runnin' Bulldogs track & field squads wrapped the 2014 Indoor season this past weekend at the Big South Conference Indoor Championship meet in Blacksburg, Va. and returned to Gardner-Webb with some hardware.
Sophomore Alex Young was named to the Big South Indoor Track & Field Men's All-Academic Team, senior Olivia Moody landed on the Women's All-Academic Team, and freshman Tyler Craig earned Men's Freshman of the Year honors at the Conference Championships this past weekend.
Young (LaVergne, Tenn.) had an eventful two days at the 2014 Big South Indoor Championship meet. The second-year Runnin' Bulldog won the men's weight throw for the second year in a row in addition to being named to the Men's Indoor All-Academic Team. Young carries a 3.8 cumulative GPA majoring in Exercise Science.
Moody (Plano, Ill.), a veteran multi athlete for coach Brian Baker's squad, recorded a 6th place in the women's Pentathlon this past weekend, finishing just two points shy of a personal best performance in the event. Moody, a Journalism major and Spanish minor, has built a 3.6 cumulative GPA during her four years at Gardner-Webb.
Craig (Talking Rock, Ga.) made a splash in his first year of collegiate competition, winning the men's pole vault by clearing 4.95 m at Big South Championships. At the Niswonger Invitational earlier this season, Craig set GWU's top mark of the season (5.10 m) in finishing as the top collegiate competitor in that event. Additionally, Craig's 1st place finish helped Gardner-Webb put two in the Top 3 of the event thanks to a 3rd place effort from All-Conference honoree Tyler Marsengill.
