Sears won individual events to lead Gardner-Webb track &
field at the Carolinas Cup, hosted by Winthrop University on
Thursday, in a final tune-up for 2014 Big South Outdoor Track &
Field Championships.
Sears (Suwanee, Ga.) was one of four Runnin' Bulldogs to win
individual events at the Carolinas Cup, taking event victories in
both the men's hammer throw (58.01 m) and the men's shot put (14.52
m). Junior Nathan
Padfield (LaVergne, Tenn.) made it a 1-2 finish for the Runnin'
Bulldogs in the men's hammer throw by taking 2nd place (55.70 m) in
the event.
In the women's high jump, freshman Kayin
Mujahid (Philadelphia, Pa.) won her first ever collegiate event
on Thursday, clearing the 1.75 m bar to claim 1st place in the
event.
Senior Josiah Stanton-Brooks (Seattle, Wash.) topped the field
in the men's 800 m run, turning in the fastest time of the event by
crossing the finish line at 1:52.04.
In the men's pole vault, GWU went 1-2-4, getting a 1st place
showing from freshman Tyler
Craig (Talking Rock, Ga.). Both Craig and 2nd place finisher Tyler
Samotis (Hendersonville, N.C.) cleared the 4.70 m bar, and Rock
Hill native Tyler
Marsengill took 4th with a height of 4.55 m.
Gardner-Webb claimed 2nd place in the men's team standings with
96 points and 4th place in the women's team standings with a total
of 58 points.
The Runnin' Bulldogs' track & field teams turn their
attention to preparing for 2014 Big South Outdoor Championships,
held April 17-19 in Rock Hill, S.C.
