Gardner-Webb Track & Field Impresses at the Tennessee Challenge

Knoxville, Tenn. - Freshman Sarah Mitchell turned in a 3rd place finish in the women's shot put, and Gardner-Webb's throwers tallied eight Top 10 performances at the Tennessee Challenge, hosted at the Tom Black Track by the University of Tennessee.
In the women's shot put, Mitchell (Roswell, Ga.) continued her stellar rookie campaign with a 3rd place finish, throwing 13.14 m in the event.
Freshman Jordan Davis (Atlanta, Ga.) cracked the Top 10 in the women's 400 m Dash by racing to a time of 59.08. Davis took 10th place in the event.
In the men's shot put, freshman Jordan Smith (Chesterfield, Va.) turned in a 9th place finish thanks to a season best performance. Smith threw his furthest distance of the season at 14.97 m.
Sophomore standout Alex Young (LaVergne, Tenn.) led Gardner-Webb in both the men's Discus Throw and Hammer Throw, finishing 6th in both events. Young tossed 50.31 m and 59.56 m in the two events, respectively.
GWU also got Top 10 showings from senior Carson Sears (Suwanee, Ga.), sophomore A.J. White (Hurricane, W.Va.), and junior Nathan Padfield (LaVergne, Tenn.). Sears took 8th in the men's Discus Throw (48.14 m) as well as 7th in the Hammer Throw (56.13 m) while White thew 47.32 m in the Discus Throw (9th) and Padfield tossed 50.62 m in the Hammer Throw (10th).
Sophomore Joseph Martin (Broadway, Va.) competed in the men's 400 m Dash, finishing with a time of 52.24 to place 17th.
