
Gardner-Webb's Dobson Collins Playing Well With CFL Ottawa RedBlacks In 2014

BOILING SPRINGS – Former Gardner-Webb standout Dobson Collins is playing the 2014 season in the Canadian Football League, hooking on with the Ottawa RedBlacks.
Collins (Stone Mountain, Ga. / Stone Mountain HS) has played in the first two games of the season for the RedBlacks, catching three pass for 35 yards and a touchdown – with that production coming in the season opener on July 3.
The 6-foot-2, 183-pounder is in his fourth season in the CFL after spending time with the San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles. Collins has hauled in 47 career passes for 603 yards so far in Canada, with his touchdown catch earlier this season the first of his career.
Collins spent this past spring semester enrolled at Gardner-Webb, and trained on campus while working toward completion of his degree.
Collins was a two-time All-Big South Conference selection at receiver during his career in Boiling Springs (2005-2008) and was twice named All-Big South Conference as a kick return specialist.
He wrapped up his career with 143 catches for 1,745 yards and 14 touchdowns. He earned honorable mention FCS All-America honors from The Sports Network as a senior in 2008 after catching a career-best 76 passes for 937 yards and 10 touchdowns. He averaged 106.2 yards per game that season against Big South foes and ranked No. 7 nationally in receptions per game.
His most impressive game that season came against eventual top-25 member and Chick-Fil-A Bowl participant Georgia Tech – catching seven passes for 97 yards in a narrow, 10-7 loss in Atlanta.
Collins also starred on the Track & Field squad at Gardner-Webb, earning Atlantic Sun Conference Freshman of the Year honors in 2006 after winning the 60m hurdles title indoors and pacing GWU to a team championship during the 2006 outdoor season.
Collins has previously played in Canada for the Edmonton Eskimos (2011, 2012), BC Lions (2011) and Hamilton Tiger Cats (2013).
