BOILING SPRINGS – The Gardner-Webb wrestling program announced Monday that former NC State All-American Darrius Little had joined the staff as an assistant coach.
Little (Thomasville, N.C.) finished his career with the Wolfpack in fine fashion, earning All-American honors by finishing eighth at the 2012 NCAA Wrestling Championships at 141 pounds – and placed in every tournament he competed in that season.
"I am extremely excited about the addition of Darrius to our staff," said GWU head coach Daniel Elliott. "Our lighter weights are going to greatly benefit from having Darrius in the room, and his enthusiasm, motivation, and work ethic will set an example for our team members.
"Darrius has a great story that will relate to our guys and I can't wait to start working with him."
Little totaled 102 career wins in Raleigh, ranking third in NC State history. His 37 wins as a senior rank second all-time for the Wolfpack.
He was a three-time NCAA qualifier and was an ACC runner up as a freshman, junior and senior. He finished third at 133 pounds as a sophomore.
During a spectacular senior season at Thomasville (N.C.) High, Little posted an impressive 48-1 ledger and won a state championship. He won 129 total matches during his high school career and was an All-American as a prep senior.
