Gardner-Webb Braves Wet Conditions at Upstate Invitational Saturday

SPARTANBURG, S.C. --- The Gardner-Webb women's cross country team placed a pair of runners in the top 30 en route to an eighth-place finish, and Josh Parks (Forest City, N.C.) led the line for the men's side at a rain-soaked Upstate Invitational on Saturday morning.
The women's squad finished eighth in the team standings with 222 points – three behind Wofford – as the men's team placed 10th with 302 points. Gabrielle Cortese (Franklin Springs, Ga.) paced the Runnin' Bulldogs in 27th, crossing the line in 19:37.83, as Claire Cates (Hillsborough, N.C.) placed 30th with a time of 19:46.89.
Jenna Ford (Wasilla, Alaska) placed 41st with a time of 20:11.71, while Rachel White (King, N.C.) finished 59th with a mark of 21:48.70. Freshman Lauren Kilpatrick (Jacksonville, Fla.) rounded out the scorers for Gardner-Webb in 65th with a mark of 22:22.79. Sydney Davis (Granite Falls, N.C.) and Michaela Williams (Nashville, N.C.) posted times of 22:37.17 and 23:02.70, respectively.
Parks led the way for the men's team in 48th, finishing the 8k race in a time of 28:35.90, as Christopher Lile (Waynesville, N.C.) placed in 51st with a mark of 28:44.09. Joshua Valdez (Haw River, N.C.) finished in 55th with a time of 28:53.73, while James Haynes (Charlotte, N.C.) and Matthew Cook (Connelly Springs, N.C.) placed 73rd and 75th, respectively.
Gardner-Webb returns to action on Saturday, October 10 at the 42nd Gene Mullin Invitational in Greenville, S.C.
