Gardner-Webb Men's And Women's Swimming Named To CSCAA Scholar All-America Teams

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.- The Gardner-Webb men's and women's swim team have been honored by the College Swimming Coaches Association of American (CSCAA) for their dedication in the classroom.
The men's and women's swim teams were named to the prestigious Division I Team Scholar-All America list, which is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams who have achieved a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
The Gardner-Webb men's team ranked 15th among all NCAA D I swim teams, posting a 3.29 GPA. The GWU women's team posted a 3.45 GPA, ranking 32nd nationally.
Since being charged to lead the GWU women's swim team in 1999 and the men's team in 2007, Gardner-Webb head swim coach Mike Simpson continues to make academics of utmost importance – and his teams have continued to display the fruits of that focus.
The women's swim team has posted a 3.0 GPA every year since 1999, and the same rings true for the men's team since the program was started during the 2007-08 season.
This past week, Mike Simpson was named the CCSA men's coach of the year, and junior Nathan Lile earned the Most Outstanding Male Swimmer, and CCSA Scholar Athlete of the Year. During the 2015 CCSA championships, the Runnin' Bulldogs achieved nine NCAA "B" cuts, set 23 school records, and won conference championships in five events.
Alongside their impressive performance in the pool, 35 student-athletes were named academic All-Big South, the highest total from any single CCSA program.
