Gardner-Webb's Krista Chauvin Named Honorable Mention Big South Women's Field Athlete of the Year

CHARLOTTE – Gardner-Webb hammer standout Krista Chauvin was one of three student-athletes named honorable mention Big South Conference Women's Field Athlete of the Year, selected by the league's head coaches.
Chauvin (Seekonk, Mass.) was joined in that group by High Point's Christine Rickert and Liberty's Jocelyn Williams.
Winthrop hammer thrower Marthaline Cooper was named Women's Field Athlete of the Year.
Chauvin earned USTFCCCA honorable mention All-America honors with her 19th-place finish at the 2015 NCAA Division I Championships earlier this month, missing second-team honors by only three spots with her best throw of 57.85 meters (189'9").
That mark was just three one-hundredths of a meter out of 18th place and only eight tenths out of 16th position. It was the fifth-best throw of the season for Chauvin and was only slightly off her NCAA preliminary throw of 57.95 meters.
Chauvin finished 10th at the NCAA East Preliminary Championships to qualify for the national event – held in Eugene, Oregon, at historic Hayward Field.
Also an All-Big South performer in the event, Chauvin broke her own school record with a throw of 59.23 meters at the 2015 Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships at High Point in May – and shattered the school record four different times during the season. Each of her best marks at meets this season were better than the previous school record in the event.
Chauvin wrapped up her lone season competing at Gardner-Webb as a two-sport All-Big South Conference selection. She was a second-team choice in women's soccer after helping the Runnin' Bulldogs to a significant level of improvement during the fall as a goal keeper.
Prior to joining the Gardner-Webb programs, Chauvin earned NCAA Division III All-America honors in Track & Field, finishing fifth in the hammer throw at the 2013 Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
