BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.- The Gardner-Webb men's swim team was selected to the Scholar All-America team announced the College Swimming Coaches Association of America, while junior Nathan Lile earned honorable mention scholar All-American honors.
The Runnin' Bulldogs finished the spring semester with a 3.38 cumulative GPA, which was tied for the 12th best GPA (3.38) in the country and the best GPA in their conference (Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association).
Individually, Lile was honored for his hard work in the classroom collecting a spot on the honorable mention Scholar All-American list. A double major in philosophy and computer science, Lile sports a perfect 4.00 GPA.
The academic honor adds to an impressive list for Lile, as earlier this season the native of Waynesville, N.C. was selected to the 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-District and was named the Scholar Athlete of the Year at the 2015 CCSA Conference Championships.
Lile was also named the Most Outstanding Male swimmer at the championships. During his junior season, he set five individual school-records and was a part of four-relays that set new top marks in Gardner-Webb swim history. The junior was the first male swimmer in GWU history to achieve the academic honor.
To be selected to the CSCAA Scholar All-America Team, swimmers and divers must have achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and have participated in their respective NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.
