
Three Women's Swimmers Named Scholar All-Americans

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.- The Gardner-Webb women's swim team was named to the Scholar All-America team announced the College Swimming Coaches Association of America, while senior Charity Byrum and freshmen Lili Toth and London Schumacher were named honorable mention scholar All-Americans.
The Runnin' Bulldogs finished the Spring semester with a 3.54 cumlative GPA, ranking 21st nationally and finishing with the highest GPA in the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association.
Byrum, Toth, and Schumacher were each selected as Honorable Mention Scholar All-Americans for their performances in the classroom and in the pool.
To be selected to the CSCAA Scholar All-America Team, swimmers and divers must have achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or higher and have participated in their respective NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Honorable Mention selections have similarly achieved a GPA of 3.50 and achieved a "B" time standard or competed at their respective qualifying meets.
Byrum graduated in May with a degree in Exercise Science, forging a perfect 4.0 cumulative average through her academic studies in Boiling Springs. She finished her career as a seven-time All-CCSA swimmer – and was a four-time CCSA All-Academic Team member.
Toth and Schumacher each had fantastic performances at the 2015 CCSA Championship meet, as the swimming duo combined for two NCAA "B" cuts and four All-Conference swims.
Since being charged to lead the GWU women's swim team in 1999 , Gardner-Webb head swim coach Mike Simpson continues to make academics of utmost importance – and his teams have continued to display the fruits of that focus. The women's swim team has been national academic champions 5 separate years and has ranked in the top 25 all 16 years of the program
