Men's Soccer Begins 2015 Preseason With First Practice Tuesday Morning

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C.- Gardner-Webb officially opened the 2015 men's soccer season Tuesday morning, holding its first official practice.
Head Coach Tony Setzer, who begins his 28th season, conducted drills that focused on transition defense, as well as team communication. Associate head coach Tyler Kettering worked separately with the goalkeepers, emphasizing proper positioning and footwork.
Setzer and his staff welcomed the 13 newcomers that practiced with the team for the first time: Michael Baker, Alain Delgado, Luke Gazak, Alex Gimenez, Andrew Kinzer, Lorenzo Ortiz, Ian Pierron, Liam Quinn, Isak Reinhardsen, Severin Soerlie, Hunter Frey, Ryan Muir, and Frej Ramberg.
Also new to the 2015 squad is assistant coach Jorge Mackenna. Mackenna graduated this past May from Limestone College, where he was a four-time All-Conference Carolinas, including garnering 2011 Conference Carolinas Freshman of the Year honors.
At the conclusion of practice, the GWU men's soccer team welcomed kids from the local Boiling Springs YMCA. The Runnin' Bulldogs interacted with the local youth, demonstrating a typical pre-game warmup as well as proper stretching techniques and injury prevention.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will continue to practice twice a day during the preseason. The Dogs' will be tested early, participating in scrimmages at South Carolina (Aug. 16) and Brevard (Aug. 25), before opening the season Aug. 28 at Wofford.
