
Reese, Hamilton Set Personal-Bests at Appalachian Pre-Conference Meet

BOONE, N.C. --- Diamond Reese (Atlanta, Ga.) set a new personal record in the weight throw, and Clay Hamilton (Blair, Neb.) replicated the feat in the men's event to pace Gardner-Webb at the Appalachian State Pre-Conference Open on Friday evening.
Sarah Mitchell (Roswell, Ga.) and Reese finished second and third, respectively, in the weight throw, as Mitchell posted a mark of 16.62 meters and Reese beat her previous PR – set last week at the Liberty Quad – by nearly a meter with a toss of 15.61 meters. Mitchell placed second in the shot put with a toss of 12.88 meters.
Hamilton broke 14 meters in the weight throw for the first time in his career, finishing second in the event with a personal record of 14.35 meters before placing fifth in the shot put with a mark of 13.13 meters. Jordan Smith (Chesterfield, Va.) finished fourth in the shot put with a mark of 15.71 meters.
Gardner-Webb returns to action on Friday, February 26 for the first day of the Big South Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships in Blacksburg, Va.
