Mens Swim Battles Limestone in 106-99 Win

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb men's swim team returned to action this morning as they took on and defeated Limestone College by a score of 106 – 99. After a quick turnaround for the Runnin' Bulldogs they were able to capitalize on today's opportunities as they collected six individual victories over the Saints.
Head coach Mike Simpson called it a "back and forth war" as "we were up against the wall from the start, with some individuals out," he stated.
Gardner-Webb had to win their last three events to defeat Limestone, as coach Simpson told his team to deep, and "they did just that," he expressed.
In the 200 Yard Freestlye, Chase Mattingly continued to impress as he swam to a first-place finish with a time of 1:47.15. Joshua Clarke placed behind Mattingly as he finished with a time of 1:47.53.
Jordan Mintz who has been strong this fall also had another good showing today as he bested the competition with a winning time of 54.28 in the 100 IM. Mintz placed first in the 50 Breaststroke as well, finishing at a 26.55 mark.
Zach Dingfield claimed victory over the competition in the 100 Free with a time of 47.40. Joshua Clarke (48.68) placed third in the event.
In the 200 Freestlye Relay, Gardner-Webb's team of Zach Dingfield, Riley Brock, Eli Coan and Mason Hutchinson topped Limestone for another first-place finish with a time of 1:25.96.
Chase Mattingly also claimed victory for GWU in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 4:46.08. Teammates, Peter Wakeley (4:50.03) and Mason Hutchinson (4:59.05) collected third and fourth place finishes, respesctfully.
"Congratulations to Limestone on a well fought battle. Our team grew stronger today and more unified as well," said Simpson, excited.
Gardner-Webb is back in action next as they are set to compete in the Fall Frenzy in Charlotte, N.C. on Nov. 17-19.
