Runnin' Bulldogs Roll To 119-81 Win Over Warren Wilson In Home Opener

BOILING SPRINGS – Gardner-Webb opened Saturday's home opener with a 16-0 run and never trailed, whipping Warren Wilson 119-81 in Paul Porter Arena.

Liam O'Reilly knocked down 8-of-10 from deep to finish with a career-high 24 points, Eric Jamison added a career-high 21 points and D.J. Laster continued his strong play inside with 20 points and 12 rebounds in the win.

Laster made 9-of-9 shots from the floor and both of his free throws in the game.

David Efianayi also had 24 points, Nate Johnson added a career-best 13 points and Jamaal Robateau broke out of an early-season slump with 13 points – as Gardner-Webb (1-3) put six men in double figures.

After the Runnin' Bulldogs opened up a 20-2 lead in the early moments, Warren Wilson (3-4) went on a wild flurry from long distance, making seven treys to pull within 33-31 with 6:24 left in the first half. 

Gardner-Webb pulled away from there, closing the half on a 23-9 run by making 10-of-11 shots from the floor. Robateau scored nine points and Laster scored eight points during the run, which put Gardner-Webb up 56-40 at halftime.

The Runnin' Bulldogs continued to shoot at a high percentage in the second half, leading by as many as 43 points and reaching the century mark with 6:19 left after back-to-back threes from O'Reilly.

Gardner-Webb shot 60.0 percent for the game (48-of-80) and made 14-of-35 from long range (40.0 percent). The 'Dogs held a dominant 51-27 edge on the backboards, outscored the Owls by a 61-16 margin in the paint and led from start to finish.

Three different GWU players – O'Reilly (8-of-10), Efianayi (3-of-7) and Johnson (3-of-8) – combined to make all 14 three-pointers on the day. The point guard duo of Christian Turner and Jaheam Cornwall did not score, but combined for eight assists.

Warren Wilson lived beyond the three-point arc, launching 51 attempts and making 19 (37.3 percent). The Owls attempted 70.3 percent of their field goals on the day from long distance.

Tyquavion Dix led the way with 21 points on 23 shot attempts (8-of-23). Lukas Juozapavicius scored 18 and Kahlon Whitley added 15 for Warren Wilson.

Gardner-Webb will close out its quick homestand on Tuesday, hosting Brevard (N.C.) College at 4:30 pm in Paul Porter Arena. The Runnin' Bulldogs will then head to Dayton, Ohio, taking on Wright State (Nov. 24), Fairfield (Nov. 25) and Jacksonville (Nov. 26) in a three-day tournament.
