CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Runnin' Bulldogs completed the fall portion of their schedule this weekend as they competed in the 2017 Marriot Fall Frenzy hosted by Queens University of Charlotte at the Mecklenberg County Aquatic Center.
Gardner-Webb swam to a third-place finish as they gathered 1,294.5 points over the three-day span. Queens, the top ranked Division II program in the country, claimed first-place with 2,135 points. Limestone College took second with 1,405 points.
COACHES' THOUGHTS
"It's always tougher for the men's team when you back off only a few days. They feel a little better in the water, but not enough to see great results. They still had some lifetime bests, and raced some shaved teams really rough all weekend. Peter Wakeley gets the iron man award for his performance on Sunday as he placed third in the mile, fifth in the 200 Yard Fly, sixth in the 400 Yard IM, and secured a top eight finish in the 200 Yard Backstroke and anchored a Freestyle relay. Josh Clarke has had a great fall, and finished it off with a solid three days (5th in the 200-yard Freestyle). Drew Peden had a bunch of best times in the 100-200-500 Freestyle. Garrett Simpson came back from a serious health issue to contribute well on relays. Jordan Mintz had solid swims with a third and fifth place finish in the breaststrokes. Zach Dingfield, Eli Coan, Seggio Bernardina, Justin Conklin, Cullen Fields, Chase Mattingly, Brendan Teeters, Cameron Pou, Dowdy Sarvis and Andrew Knudsen also had a good weekend. We will be stronger and more resilient after this weekend. That's what championship teams do - learn from the experiences that they go through," proclaimed head coach Mike Simpson.
