GWU Rolls Past Toccoa Falls, 102-41, Wednesday In Final Non-Conference Tilt

BOILING SPRINGS – David Efianayi scored a game-high 18 points to lead five men in double figures, and Gardner-Webb rolled past Toccoa Falls, 102-41, Wednesday morning for its second win in a row.

The Runnin' Bulldogs (5-8) opened the game with a 14-2 run and built a sizable 58-18 lead by halftime. Gardner-Webb shot 53.7 percent in the opening half, including a 10-of-22 effort from long range, and never looked back against the Screaming Eagles.

DJ Laster added 15 points, Liam O'Reilly added 14 and both Eric Jamison and Jamaal Robateau came off the bench to score 10 points.

Gardner-Webb played its reserves for much of the second half, as every available body played at least 12 minutes – and no starter saw more than 21 minutes of action.

The Runnin' Bulldogs forced 27 turnovers in the game, turning those miscues into a 44-0 edge in points off of turnovers – with 23 points coming on the break. GWU had 13 layups or dunks in the win, averaged 1.38 points per possession and turned 18 offensive rebounds into a 20-0 edge in second-chance points.

Gardner-Webb was 20-of-28 at the charity stripe (71.4 percent) and assisted on 25 of its 34 made baskets (73.5 percent). O'Reilly dished off seven assists and point guards Christian Turner and Jaheam Cornwall each had five assists.

In addition to its double figures scoring quintet, Gardner-Webb got nine points from Nate Johnson, eight from Patrick Zeck and six each from L'Hassane Niangane and Justin Jenkins. Niangane tied his career high with 10 rebounds (eight offensive) and blocked a pair of shots.

Zeck added seven rebounds and blocked three shots in a starting role.

Toccoa Falls shot just 26.1 percent in the first half to fall behind by 40 at intermission, and would get no closer in the second half – despite making 10-of-20 from long distance in the game.

Kevin Cave (17 points) and Shane Thompson (16 points) shot a comnbined 9-of-12 together from three-point range to lead the Screaming Eagles offensively.

Gardner-Webb will enjoy a long break before returning to Paul Porter Arena on Saturday, December 30, at 4:30 PM to open Big South Conference play against Liberty. The Runnin' Bulldogs and Flames will stream live on The Big South Network (bigsouthsports.com).
