
Track and Field Has Strong Showing at 49er Classic

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb outdoor track and field team had a handful of members take part in the 49er Classic over the weekend, hosted by Charlotte, with a number of strong performances throughout the two days of competition.
A.J. White shined in his two events, earning a pair of top-five finishes. In the hammer toss, White finished in fifth with a throw of 50.53 meters. The senior from Hurricane,W.Va. placed third in the discus with a mark of 48.89 meters.
Jalin Lawson set a new personal record in the triple jump, finishing 12th with a distance of 14.01 meters. His previous best was 13.98 meters, set at the Mountaineer open on April 30, 2016.
Lawson also placed 41st in the 100-meter dash, clocking in at 11.22 seconds.
In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Christopher Lile timed in at 10:29.24 to finish in 13th place. Ezekiel Martin clocked in at 10:39.33 to earn a 17th place finish.
Josh Parks clocked in at 2:01.15 in the 800-meter run to take home a 43rd place finish.
In the 5,000-meter run, Keaton Poole finished in 49th place with a time of 15:57.80.
Hannah Sparacio placed 51st in the 100-meter hurdles, clocking in at 17.39 seconds.
In the 800-meter run, Valerie Walker clocked in at 2:49.00 to earn a 79th place finish.
Hannah Jones timed in at 5:23.50 in the 1,500-meter run to finish in 84th place.
Logan Walker finished the 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:34.15 to finish in 97th place.
Gardner-Webb will next be in action at the Winthrop Invitational, taking place March 23-25 in Rock Hill, S.C.
