Men's Outdoor Track and Field Finish Fourth, Women Fifth at 2017 Big South Championships; A.J. White Named Men's Scholar-Athlete of the Year

CHARLESTON, S.C. – Action concluded Friday afternoon at the 2017 Big South Outdoor Track and Field Championships, in which the men's team tied for fourth-place, while the women's team finished in fifth-place overall. Senior A.J. White also was named the men's Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
White took first place in the men's discus throw with a mark of 48.63 meters. Marcus Abraham finished in second-place in the event with a throw of 46.81 meters.
White also earned Men's Co-Outstanding Field Performer for the meet, along with Liberty's Darrel Jones.
Jalin Lawson earned a second-place finish in the men's 100-meter dash, clocking in at 10.66 seconds, setting a new personal record with the second-fastest time in GWU history in the event.
Lawson also finished second in the men's triple jump with a distance of 15.51 meters, setting a new PR with a new school record in the event. Quenton Jones earned a fifth-place finish in the event at 14.52 meters.
Seaver Wait finished in fourth-place in the men's high jump with a mark of 1.94 meters.
The team of Carlos Williams, Jalin Lawson, Darius Gary, and Seaver Wait finished fourth in the men's 4 x 100-meter relay, clocking in at 42.15 seconds. The result marks the fifth-fastest time in the event in GWU history.
In the women's 4 x 100-meter relay, the team of Jordan Davis, Merideth Byl, Kira Ramsey, and Paige Peterson finished in sixth with a time of 48.46 seconds.
Jordan Davis finished in sixth in the women's 400-meter run finals, timing in at 57.99 seconds.
In the women's 4 x 400-meter relay, the team of Jordan Davis, Merideth Byl, Paige Peterson, and Hannah Sparacio finished in fifth-place with a time of 3:53.74.
In the women's 400-meter hurdles, Paige Peterson timed in at 1:03.18 to finish in seventh place, setting a new personal record.
Carlos Williams finished in seventh-place in the men's 200-meter dash, clocking in at 22.50 seconds.
In the men's 4 x 400-meter relay, the team of Carlos Williams, Josh Parks, Darius Gary, and Ezekiel Martin timed in at 3:26.97 to finish in seventh.
In the men's pole vault, Matt Dillion finished in eighth-place with a height of 4.25 meters.
Elise Moffatt was named to the women's All-Academic team.
Liberty took home both the men's and women's championships, with Campbell and High Point finishing second and third respectively on both sides.
