STATESBORO, Ga. - The Runnin' Bulldogs took the field this afternoon in a non-conference match against Georgia Southern at Eagle Field. Despite a well-fought effort, the Runnin' Bulldogs fell to the Eagles by a score of 1-0.
The Eagles took the lead in the first half, notching the lone goal of the match at the 29:35 mark off the foot of Frida Brattum, her first goal of the season.

Mike Varga stated, "I saw a lot of good things today. I thought we opened the match well, but gave away an unfortunate goal against the run of play. We regrouped in the second half and had most of the possession. But, we needed to be better in the final third."
GWU recorded six shots in the match, while just three were on goal. Midfielder
Stina Kleppe lead the way for the 'Dogs this afternoon as she tallied three shots, with one on goal. Goalkeeper
Keely Brown maintained presence in goal, as she recorded four saves against the Eagles offense, allowing one goal.
Gardner-Webb recorded 13 fouls in the match, while Georgia Southern had six.
On an offensive front, the Eagles notched six shots, while five were on goal. They also had two corner kicks, and GWU had three.
Georgia Southern keeper Lauren Karinshak had three saves in the match.
"We will brush it off, learn from our mistakes and be better," claimed Varga.
Gardner-Webb will head into this week preparing for their first home match of the season at Greene-Harbison Stadium, in Boiling Springs, N.C.. The team will take on the Maryland Terrapins Friday, Aug. 25
th at 7:00 PM.
