RICHMOND, Ky. – The Runnin' Bulldogs women's soccer team captured their first victory of the 2017 season with a 2-0 win this afternoon against Eastern Kentucky University.
Coach
Mike Varga stated after the game, "I am very proud of the girls. This season has had some frustration. But, the team keeps working hard every day."
"After a good week of training, the team stuck to our game plan and we had a lot of belief in each other tonight," Varga continued.
Tied at zero beginning the second period,
Jana Braun and
Ty Snell each found the back of the net for the 'Dogs. Braun scored her first career goal in the 60
th minute from eight yards out, securing a spot in the bottom left corner of the goal.
Stina Kleppe recorded the assist.
Ty Snell joined in on the scoring action at the 73:19 mark as she scored unassisted from six yards out on what Coach Varga called an "incredible effort".
The Colonels mirrored Gardner-Webb as they each recorded eight shots, with three on goal this afternoon. For EKU, Jordan Foster recorded two shots on goal, while Sarah Owusu had one.
Keeper
Keely Brown recorded the shutout in goal as she made three saves against the Eastern Kentucky offense.
Colonel goalkeeper Anna Hall recorded one save in goal while conceding two goals.
Twenty different Runnin' Bulldogs saw action in the match.
The Runnin' Bulldogs climb to 1-5 with today's win. Eastern Kentucky falls to 2-3-1.
Gardner-Webb will return to action this Sunday, as they welcome Florida Atlantic University to Greene-Harbison Stadium at 5:00 PM. Florida Atlantic currently stands at 3-3-1 on the season.
