Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Ristic Wins at No. 4 Singles But Runnin' Bulldogs Drop First Match of Season

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Miljana Ristic used a 12-10 super tiebreaker to win at No. 4 singles, but the Gardner-Webb women's tennis team dropped its first match of the 2018 season, 6-1, to the College of Charleston Cougars.

College of Charleston took the doubles point, although Daniela Naupari and Paula Romero were victorious at No. 3 doubles, 6-2.

In singles action, Ristic was the only Runnin' Bulldog to record a victory, but Valentine Limauge battled at No. 5 singles before ultimately falling in a super tiebreaker, 10-4. All seven players on the roster played singles, with the No. 7 match between Gardner-Webb's Claire Chase and the Cougars' Sarah Jane Jones considered an exhibition.

The loss moves Gardner-Webb to 0-1 on the season, while the Cougars moved to 1-0 on the young season.

"I saw a lot of positives today," head coach Jim Corn said. "Our girls know that College of Charleston is a quality opponent, and I'm proud of the way we competed. As the season goes on our team will continue to work hard and improve.  Our goal is to find more and more positives in each match. If we do that, we'll end up in the win column very soon. I'm very pleased with our effort today and look forward to competing again next week."

The Runnin' Bulldogs will hit the road next Saturday, January 27, when they travel to Davidson for an indoor contest. Match time is set for 10 a.m.
