Cross Country Boasts Record-Setting Performances at Royals Cross Country Challenge Friday Evening

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Seven new personal records were set Friday night as the Gardner-Webb men's and women's cross country teams took part in the Royals Cross Country Challenge, hosted by Queens University at McAlpine Creek Park.
The event began with the women's 5k race, which saw Amy Turlington and Hannah Jones lead the Runnin' Bulldogs with identical times of 20:00, both personal records. They were followed by Sandra Bolstad, who clocked in at 21:01 in her first event for GWU. Faith Parandhamaia timed in at 21:21, closely followed by Courtney Kanetzke with a time of 21:42, both setting new PRs.
In the men's 8k race, Ezekiel Martin led Gardner-Webb with a time of 27:45, which was just 22 seconds shy of his personal best time. Patrick Sastre was just behind him, crossing the line at 27:49 to set a new PR. Sam Hermanns clocked in at a personal-best 31:21, followed by Bogdan Podgaisky, who also set a new PR with a time of 32:31. Nathaniel Sayles rounded out the field of GWU runners, timing in at 41:07.
Gardner-Webb will now prepare for the 2018 Big South Conference Cross Country Championships, taking place on Friday, October 26 in Kernersville, N.C. at the Ivey M. Redmon Sports Complex.
