Gardner-Webb Women's Golf Takes Second At Blue Hose Match Play

NINETY SIX, S.C. – Gardner-Webb women's golf finished second at the 2018 Blue Hose Match Play tournament, hosted by Presbyterian College on Monday and Tuesday.
The Runnin' Bulldogs got off to a strong start Monday, finishing at 2-0 for the day with wins over Longwood (4-1) and Presbyterian (3-2). Gardner-Webb dropped its third round match to USC Upstate by a 3-2 margin.
The event was held on the 6,175-yard Patriot Course (Par 72), which is also the site of the 2019 Big South Conference Women's Golf Championship.
Morgan Laird played in the top spot against Longwood, taking a 6&5 win over Grace Huffman. Allison Chandler followed suit with a 6&5 win over Diana Domenech and Linnea Hofgren took a 4&2 win over Bobbi Uhl.
Lindsay Koppel and Kristen Wong each halved their matches to pad Gardner-Webb's margin of victory.
In Gardner-Webb's 3-2 win over the host Blue Hose, Laird again won at the top spot, taking a 2&1 victory over Serina Combs. Presbyterian's Julie Hillestad captured a 5&4 win at the No. 2 position, but Linnea Hofgren (2&1) and Allison Chandler (3&1) seized control of the match for GWU.
In Tuesday's finale, Wong captured a 1UP win over the Spartans' Kathryn Elliott and Laird took a 4&3 win over Pan Paksamont, but USC Upstate held on for wins in the other three spots for the 3-2 team victory.
Upstate finished the two-day event with a 3-0 mark. Gardner-Webb, Radford, Presbyterian and The Citadel rounded out the top five.
