
Men’s Swimming Defeats Catawba, 170-92, Friday Afternoon

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb men's swimming team picked up a win in its first home meet of the 2018-19 season, defeating Catawba College by a score of 170-92 Friday afternoon at Bost Pool.
The Runnin' Bulldogs posted ten event wins throughout the meet.
The 'Dogs began the meet by taking the first two spots in the 200-yard medley relay. The grouping of Brady Fields, Jordan Mintz, Tim Bennett, and Seggio Bernardina timed in first at 1:34.41, followed by the squad of John O'Connell, Jonathan Frye, Cullen Fields, and Zach Dingfield at 1:35.92.
Brady Fields also took home a first-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke, clocking in at 51.81 seconds.
Jordan Mintz placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 58.71 seconds, followed closely by teammate Jonathan Frye at 58.95 seconds.
Cullen Fields and Tim Bennett earned the top two places in the 200-yard butterfly, timing in at 1:56.70 and 1:56.93 respectively.
GWU also had the top two times in the 50-yard freestyle as Zach Dingfield and Brady Fields touched the wall with times of 21.71 seconds and 21.94 seconds respectively.
Seggio Bernardina and Joshua Clarke had the two top marks in the 100-yard freestyle at 48.59 seconds and 48.75 seconds respectively.
Cullen Fields timed in first in the 200-yard backstroke, touching the wall at 1:57.33.
Jordan Mintz earned a first-place result in the 200-yard backstroke, timing in at 2:09.74.
Gardner-Webb had the top-three results in the 100-yard butterfly, led by Seggio Bernardina at 52.96 seconds. Cullen Fields placed second at 53.31 seconds, and Brendan Teeters placed third at 54.97 seconds.
The event wrapped up with the 400-yard freestyle relay, where the team of Tim Bennett, Ethan Long, Zach Dingfield, and Chase Mattingly placed first at 3:16.16, followed by the grouping of Joshua Clarke, Will Anderson, Johnathan Frye, and Drew Mint at 3:17.72.
The Runnin' Bulldogs return to action on Friday, October 26, taking on BYU, Mount St. Mary's and Old Dominion in a two-day meet hosted by Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va.
