Oskar Wang Earns Big South Attacking Player of the Week Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Oskar Wang accounted for both of Gardner-Webb's goals in a 2-1 victory against the Radford Highlanders last week and became the third Runnin' Bulldog to win Big South weekly honors as he was named the Men's Soccer Attacking Player of the Week.

Wang (Neshollen, Norway / Vormsund NTG Kongsvinger) joins fellow teammates Jack Hoey and Samuel Catherall, who earned Big South Attacking and Defensive Player of the Week honors on September 17th, as weekly award winners from Gardner-Webb.

Wang scored his first goal in the match against the Highlanders in the 28th minute when he received a pass from teammate Magnus Moldjord to put to 'Dogs up 1-0.

Moldjord ran down the left side of the field and played the ball to Wang who was inside the six in the center of the box. Wang placed the ball under the Radford keeper for the contest's first goal.

After Radford netted the equalizer, Wang scored what would be the game-winning goal in the 48th minute.

Following a foul on the Highlanders, Wang lined up to take a free kick from the right side of the pitch. Facing a five-man wall, Wang sent the ball around the left side of the wall and into the net.

The two goals in the victory gave Wang three for the 2018 season, which ties him for the team-high with Hoey. He leads the team in points with eight (three goals, two assists) and has an impressive .455 shots on goal percentage (5-for-11).

The Runnin' Bulldogs will continue Big South Conference Play on Tuesday, October 9 at Winthrop University where they'll look to earn their fourth conference victory. Match time is set for 6 p.m. in Rock Hill, S.C.
