November 11, 2018 | Men's Soccer
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Following the conclusion of today's Big South Conference men's soccer championship, conference officials announced that Gardner-Webb freshman David Moreno was named to the All-Tournament team.
A native of Spain, Moreno appeared in nine matches during his inaugural season in Boiling Springs with eight starts.
In the opening round of the Big South tournament, he played 75 minutes in a 3-0 loss to the Campbell Fighting Camels.
For the season, Moreno started eight of nine matches that he saw action in and logged 675 minutes. He attempted six shots, three of which were on goal and scored once.
His lone goal of 2018 came in a 4-1 defeat of Big South opponent Winthrop. Moreno scored the final goal of the match, taking a pass from Magnus Moldjord in the 80th minute and converting.
"I am proud of David for earning this recognition," said coach Tony Setzer. "When he logged his first minutes on the pitch in September, I knew he would make an impact for us, and he did throughout the remainder of the season. Our staff is excited that he has three more seasons in Boiling Springs and are excited to see him continue to grow as both a player and a leader."
With the 'Dogs 2018 season complete, they will now turn their attention to the 2019 spring season and preparation for the fall of 2019.
Campbell won the Big South Conference tournament today and earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
