CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Gardner-Webb swimming completed the first day of the Sheraton/Le Meriden Fall Frenzy Invitational, taking place at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center on Friday.
In the women's 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of
Tessa Walsh,
Jessi Snover,
Carol Zangla, and
Lindsey Wright placed 11
th at 1:39.81, followed by the grouping of
Blake Broullire,
Whitney Peters,
Jennifer Jackson, and
Morgan VanderSchaaf in 13
th at 1:40.44.
The team of
Brady Fields,
Dowdy Sarvis,
Kevin Plewniak, and
Tim Bennett led GWU in the men's 200-yard freestyle relay, clocking in at 1:25.49 to place eighth.
Ethan Long,
Seggio Bernardina,
Will Anderson,and
Jordan Mintz placed 13
th with a time of 1:27.96.
Morgan VanderSchaaf earned a 16th-place result in the women's 500-yard freestyle, touching the wall at 5:13.33.
In the men's 500-yard freestyle,
Chase Mattingly took home a 20th-place result at 4:47.81 and
Will Anderson timed in at 4:54.87 to place 23rd overall.
Mary Traylor placed 12th in the women's 200-yard IM, clocking in at 2:09.10.
The Runnin' Bulldogs had a trio of finalists in the men's 200-yard IM, led by
Peter Wakeley in 16th at 1:59.51, followed by
Christian Jann at 1:56.00 in 17th and
Jordan Mintz in 20th at 1:56.51.
Brady Fields earned a 16th-place result in the men's 50-yard freestyle, timing in at 21:29 seconds.
In the women's 400-yard medley relay, the team of
Spencer Lucas,
Whitney Peters,
Tessa Walsh, and
Morgan VanderSchaaf placed 14th at 4:02.13, followed by the grouping of
Charity Bennett,
Anna Banick,
Mary Traylor, and
Jessi Snover at 4:04.16 to place 16th.
In the men's 400-yard medley relay, the team of
Brady Fields,
Jordan Mintz,
Cullen Fields, and
Chase Mattingly took home a tenth-place result, clocking in at 3:29.32.
Day two of the three-day event continues Saturday with prelims at 10:00 am, with the finals taking place at 6:00 pm.
