MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – Senior midfielder Jack Hoey followed his First-Team All-Big South recognition by being named to the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) All-State University Division First-Team.
The NCCSIA All-State University Division includes players from NCAA Division I schools, while the College Division contains players from NCAA Division II and III institutions.
Hoey (Bournemouth, UK / Rowan College) was the Runnin' Bulldogs' top goal scorer during his senior season with seven goals. On two separate occasions, the Bournemouth, United Kingdom native scored twice in a match. He earned Big South Player of the Week honors after scoring two goals in a 3-0 conference win over USC Upstate.
In the match against Upstate, he scored in the 19th minute off a header and again early in the second half when he went the length of the field, working his way around the Spartans' defense for what was his third goal of the 2018 season.
He would go on to score four more times over the course of the year, including the game-winner in the season finale at UNC-Asheville, a contest that Gardner-Webb won, 2-1. Hoey's game-winner clinched a Big South tournament berth for Gardner-Webb as the No. 5 seed.
He finished his senior season in the top-five in the Big South in seven statistical categories for attacking players, including tied for second in game-winning goals (3), third in goals per game (0.5) and fourth in goals (7), points (14) and points per game (1.0).
