S.Plentovich, Williams Score in Double Figures in Gardner-Webb's 82-46 Rout of Pfeiffer

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Savannah Plentovich and Jhessyka Williams each scored in double figures as the Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs defeated the Pfeiffer Falcons, 82-46, after a 12-day break in action.

Gardner-Webb (4-1) never trailed and led by as many as 40 points en route to its fourth win of the 2018-19 season.

Savannah and Carley Plentovich scored six of the Runnin' Bulldogsf' first 10 points, giving GWU a 10-4 lead. Over the final 5:04 of the period, the 'Dogs held the Falcons to just one point, while adding nine of their own. Four different players scored during the final five minutes of the opening quarter.

After leading by 14 at the end of the first, Gardner-Webb would take a 20-point lead, 30-10, off a jumper by Neydja Petithomme with 4:09 remaining in the half. Once again, the 'Dogs would close out the quarter with nine additional points, while Pfeiffer scored just four. At the half, Gardner-Webb led by a 39-14 margin.

The Runnin' Bulldogs managed a 5-0 run over the final 1:19 of the half with S. Plentovich connecting from beyond the arc, while Nia Lee scored the final points before the intermission for the home team.

The 'Dogs opened the third quarter with a second 5-0 run as S. Plentovich once again converted from deep, while Ky'Asia hit a layup thanks to a pass form C. Plentovich. The Falcons cut the lead to 28 with 3:23 left in the period, 50-22, but GWU would extend its lead back to more than 30 points, 57-24, when Gabrielle Caponegro, a Big South Player of the Week winner earlier this season, hit a layup.

With one quarter remaining, the Runnin' Bulldogs led, 57-26.

In the fourth, Gardner-Webb exploded for 25 points, outscoring the Falcons 25-20 over the final 10 minutes of play. Seven different Runnin' Bulldogs scored in the quarter. With 3:34 left in the game, Williams gave Gardner-Webb its largest lead of the contest, 70-30, with an old-fashioned three-point play that came on a fast break.

After Williams' layup and free throw, Pfeiffer would outscore the 'Dogs by a 16-12 margin over the remainder of the game. Freshman Lauren Adam and Williams combined for eight of Gardner-Webb's final 12 points.

With the 82-46 win, the Runnin' Bulldogs are now 4-1 overall. The game will count as an exhibition for NCAA Division III Pfeiffer.

S. Plentovich (23 points) and Williams (14 points) both scored in double figures for Gardner-Webb. Morgan Pointer led the team with seven rebounds, while three players – Stanford, Peithomme and C. Plentovich each had five assists.
\For Pfeiffer, Sydni Bickford scored a team-high 11 points. Jamia Johnson narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds.

Gardner-Webb shot 50 percent (33-of-66) for the game, including a scorching 58 percent (18-of-31) over the final two quarters. The 'Dogs shot 8-of-9 at the charity stipe. Despite a cold shooting first half, the Falcons shot 53 percent (14-of-26) in the second half.

With its four-game homestand now complete, Gardner-Webb will travel to Wofford on Thursday, November 29 for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
