CLARION, Pa. – Gardner-Webb redshirt senior Tyler Marinelli led the way Saturday during a busy Clarion Open, going 5-0 on the day to take home a first-place result at 157 pounds.
 
Marinelli opened the day picking up a 7-2 decision over Kent State's David Johnson, followed by a pair of major decision victories, defeating Kent State's Benjamin Heyob, 12-4, and Cleveland State's Ryan Montgomery by a 10-0 score.
 
Marinelli defeated Cleveland State's Nico O'dor, 5-1, in the semifinals and wrapped up the day by defeating Lock Haven's Alexander Klucker by a 6-3 decision in the finals to earn the 157-pound title.
 
Kyle Homet went 4-2 on the day for the Runnin' Bulldogs at 174 pounds.  After dropping his opening bout by fall, Homet went on a tear, picking up four-straight wins to advance to the consolation semifinals, where he dropped a 10-2 major decision to Lock Haven's Jared Siegrist.
 
GWU's Evan Schenk also had a solid day at 165 pounds, posting a 3-2 record.  Schenk opened the day by earning a tight 4-3 decision over Kent State's Richard Jackson, but would fall in the next round to Pittsburgh's Curtis Decker by a 3-0 decision.
 
Schenk rebounded to pick up a pair of decisions in the consolation rounds, defeating unattached teammate Christian Trimble, 5-3, and Brian Borden, 10-4.  He would fall to Buffalo's Dillon Ross by a 7-0 decision in the consolation round of eight.
 
Gardner-Webb will be back in action on Saturday, November 10, hosting Ouachita Baptist and Queens in dual meet action beginning at 12:00 pm.
