Kylee Garrison had a match-high 18 kills, but Gardner-Webb would fall to Winthrop in four sets in Big South Conference volleyball action on Tuesday evening.
Gardner-Webb (7-21, 1-14 Big South) dropped the first two sets to Winthrop (14-13, 10-5 Big South) by scores of 25-18 and 25-21, but would rebound after the intermission to take the third set by a 26-24 score. The Eagles would respond by claiming the fourth set, 25-20, to seal the overall match win.
The Runnin' Bulldogs had 47 kills on 168 attempts for a .143 attack percentage, while the Eagles collected 65 kills on 179 swings for a .201 attacking rate.
Garrison paced the GWU attack with 18 kills on 51 swings, followed by Molly Johnson with 13 smashes.
Amanda Sahm dished out a team-best 26 assists.
Charissa Coleman led the 'Dogs with 22 digs, followed by Sahm with 17.
Hannah Donaldson led the team's blocking effort with seven total blocks.
Jace Kleffner led Winthrop with 18 kills on 40 attempts, one of four Eagles with double-digit kills. Siani Yamaguchi provided a match-high 50 assists.
Carlie Skelton led Winthrop with 28 digs, while Lily Leistiko had a team-high three total blocks.
Gardner-Webb returns home to Paul Porter Arena for the 2018 season finale, hosting High Point on Saturday, November 10. The match is set for a 4:00 pm start time with live coverage on ESPN+.
