December 11, 2018 | Men's Soccer
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Gardner-Webb defender Simen Olsen, a junior business major, was named to the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-South Region Second-Team.
Olsen (Oslo, Norway / Bjerke VGS) becomes the third Runnin' Bulldog to be recognized for academics this season. He joins Brian Stepanek (Davidson, N.C. / Eagles Nest Academy), a Google Cloud Academic All-American and Petter Johansen (Toensberg, Norway / Wang Toppridrett Toensberg), who represented GWU on the Big South Conference All-Academic team member.
"To have Simen become the third player on the team to receive recognition for his work in the classroom shows just how much our guys value both academics and soccer," said head coach Tony Setzer. "We are proud of him for being a leader on and off the field."
Olsen has a 3.39 GPA in the classroom and led Gardner-Webb in minutes played this season with 1,379. He started 15 matches and contributed to four shutouts as a defender, including one against Big South Conference opponent USC Upstate.
