Tierra Huntsman scored a game-high 17 points in her final game inside Paul Porter Arena, as Gardner-Webb defeated High Point by a score of 54-47 on Saturday afternoon.
Gardner-Webb (18-10, 8-8 Big South) had three scorers in double-figures, led by Huntsman's 17-point performance on 5-of-11 shooting, including 3-of-7 from long distance.
Alexus Hill added 12 points in her final home game as well, going 5-of-15 from the floor.
Carley Plentovich contributed with 10 points on a 3-of-8 performance.
GWU held High Point (16-11, 10-6 Big South) to its second-lowest point total of the season, as the Panthers went 17-of-53 (32.1 percent) from the floor, and were unable to make a single three-point basket, going 0-for-9 from that range.
Shea Morgan led the Panthers offensively with 10 points, who was 3-of-10 for the afternoon.
The Runnin' Bulldogs made 18 of their 48 attempts on the afternoon (37.5 percent), including a 4-of-16 (25.0 percent) from downtown.
Gardner-Webb did not trail for a single second in the contest, as Huntsman scored the first points of the game on a layup with 8:56 to go in the first period, followed by a three pointer by Plentovich with 8:03 to go, giving GWU a 5-0 edge.
The Panthers pulled within one point at 7-6 with 2:17 to go on a tough layup by Kat Harris, but GWU closed the frame on a three-point basket by Huntsman in the final seconds to lead by a 10-6 margin after one period.
High Point tied the game on three occasions in the second period, the last being at 14-14 with 6:44 on the clock after a Kennedy Currie layup, yet the 'Dogs closed the half on a 14-0 run, capped by a mid-range basket by
Alexis Hueston with 22 seconds remaining, to lead at the half by a 28-14 margin.
Both squads traded baskets to open the third period, with GWU building its largest lead of the game at 35-20 on a long-range basket from Huntsman with 7:03 on the clock.
High Point responded with eight unanswered points over the next 3:27 to trim Gardner-Webb's lead to seven points at 35-28 with 3:36 left in the quarter.
GWU closed out the period with its own run, scoring seven unanswered points, with the last points being on a last-second layup by Hill, to lead by 14 points at 42-28 as play headed to the final period.
The Panthers pulled within single digits once again at 47-38 with 3:48 to go in the fourth period on a basket by Harris, but Gardner-Webb made 7-of-12 attempts at the free throw line over the final minutes to hang on for a 54-47 win.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will close out the 2017-18 regular season with a two-game road stand, beginning Tuesday evening at Campbell. Tip-off is set for 7:00 pm.
