Runnin' Bulldogs Fall to Campbell in Women's Tennis Action, 5-2, on Saturday

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team dropped its second consecutive conference match on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Campbell Fighting Camels, 5-2.

The Runnin' Bulldogs are in the midst of a five-game skid and fall to 1-7 overall and 0-2 in Big South Conference action. With the win, Campbell improves to 6-5 and an undefeated 2-0 in BSC matches.

The match began with the Fighting Camels winning the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Sandra Bolstad and Miljana Ristic (No. 1) and Daniela Naupari and Paula Romero (No. 3) both lost by a 6-4 score in doubles.

In singles play, Campbell won the first three matches to clinch the victory. Gardner-Webb earned wins in the No. 3 and No. 4 positions.

At No. 3, Naupari defeated her opponent in straight sets, winning set one, 6-1, before taking the second set, 6-4. Ristic battled for three sets in the No. 4 position. The Nis, Serbia native won the opening set, 6-4, but dropped the second, 5-7. In the third and final set, Ristic was victorious in a 10-6 super tiebreaker.

The match concluded with Valentine Limauge falling in three sets in the No. 5 position. The freshman from Belgium won the second set, 6-1, but fell by identical 6-2 scores in the first and third sets.

The Runnin' Bulldogs will look to rebound on Tuesday against UNC Asheville. First serve of the Big South Conference match is set for 1 p.m. from Asheville, North Carolina.
