Gardner-Webb Falls to Campbell, 12-1, in Series Finale Sunday Afternoon

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell scored eight runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to hand Gardner-Webb a 12-1 loss in the final game of the Big South Conference weekend series on Sunday afternoon.

Gardner-Webb (13-13, 1-5 Big South) mustered just three hits on the day, dropping its fourth straight decision.  Campbell (13-11, 6-0 Big South) totaled 14 hits throughout the contest and remains perfect in league play.

The Camels took an initial 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning.  Kevin Barron sent the first run of the afternoon across the plate on a RBI infield single, followed by a RBI groundout by Bryce Myers.

GWU answered in the top of the third, slicing the Campbell lead in half on a RBI knock to center field by Eric Jones with two away, plating Taber Mongero who led off the frame with a walk.

Campbell increased its lead in the bottom half of the inning, scoring twice on a two-run double to deep right field by Zach Minnick to hold a 3-1 edge.

Neither team scored again until the bottom of the eighth inning as Campbell pushed eight runs across in an inning that saw Gardner-Webb use three different pitchers.

Matthew Barefoot (3-for-3, 2 2B, RBI) and Minnick (3-for-5, 2B, 4 RBI) led the Campbell offensive attack.

Jones (1-for-4, RBI), Mickey Dugan (1-for-3), and Chris Clary (1-for-3) had each of GWU's base hits on the day.

Brandon Jenkins (1-0) earned the win on the mound for the Camels, allowing just one run on two hits in 7.0 innings of work with seven strikeouts.  Logan Bender and Allan Winans each worked scoreless frames in relief.

Isaac Campbell (2-3) took the loss for the Runnin' Bulldogs, allowing four runs on six hits in 3.0 innings.  Langdon Wilson tossed 3.1 innings in relief, allowing no runs and just one base hit, while Wil Sellers gave up four runs on three hits in 0.2 innings, Jarrett Thompson allowed four runs on three hits in 0.2 innings, and Tyler Johnson allowed no runs on one hit, recording the final out of the eighth inning.
