Runnin Bulldogs Finish Tied For Eighth At 2018 Gary Koch Invitational

GASTONIA, N.C. – Gardner-Webb shot a final round of 297 on Monday to finish in a tie for eighth at the 2018 Gary Koch Invitational in men's golf action.
The Runnin' Bulldogs tied with Coastal Carolina (Sun Belt) for the three-round tournament with a score of 882 (295-290-297). The event was held once again at the Gaston Country Club.
Kentucky won the 13-team tournament, which welcomed a talented field of teams. Auburn finished second, Ole Miss took third and Florida State finished fourth. Virginia rounded out the top five.
Gardner-Webb was led by Steffen Smith, who carded a 71 on Monday to pull into a tie for 29th. Smith (74-73-71-218) finished on stroke in front of Gastonia, N.C., native Aaron Thomas (74-73-72-219) – who tied for 34th.
Chad Phillips (71-75-77-223) finished tied for 46th individually, Jonathan Henry (79-72-77-228) was tied for 60th individually and Jake Kennedy (76-72-86-234) rounded out the Gardner-Webb contingent in 70th position.
The tournament marked the end of the regular season for Gardner-Webb. Up next is a visit to Ninety Six, S.C., on April 20-22 for the 2018 Big South Championship.
