New Personal Records Highlights GWU's Performance at Duke Invitational

DURHAM, N.C. – The Gardner-Webb men's and women's outdoor track and field teams combined to set 15 new personal records throughout the two-day Duke Invitational at the Morris Williams Track and Field Stadium.
 
Jordan Smith took home the men's shot put title with a distance of 17.03 meters.
 
Karin Sastre earned a second-place finish in the women's pole vault with a personal best mark of 3.70 meters.  Sastre's performance is tied for the fourth-best mark in the event in GWU history.  Sarah Coleman finished at 3.30 meters.
 
Sarah Mitchell set a new personal record in the women's shot put with a toss of 14.22 meters, placing eighth.  That mark ranks second in school history.
 
In the women's hammer throw, Petra Jakeljic placed eighth with a toss of 52.31 meters.  Cailen Blare finished with a mark of 48.12 meters and Sarah Mitchell had a mark of 44.85 meters.
 
Chase Thornhill finished eighth with a personal best time of 47.72 seconds in the men's 400-meter run which also ranks as the second best time in school history.
 
Carlos Williams clocked in at 21.96 seconds in the men's 200-meter dash, setting a new personal record in what is also the fourth fastest time in the event in GWU history.
 
Three new PRs were set in the women's 400-meter run as Diviana Forrest timed in at 58.40 seconds, the tenth-fastest result in GWU history. Hannah Sparacio clocked in at 1:00.94, and Kelsey Houser finished with a time of 1:05.54.
 
In the men's 800-meter run, Patrick Sastre set a new PR with a time of 1:56.83, a time that ranks ninth in school history.  Josh Parks finished with a time of 1:59.05.
 
Mason Marshall set a new PR in the men's 100-meter dash with a time of 11.43 seconds.  Austin Billiot clocked in at 11.49 seconds, while Chris Tobin finished with a personal best time of 11.92 seconds.
 
Hannah Jones set a new personal best in the women's 800-meter run, crossing the line at 2:21.95.  Amy Turlington finished the event with a time of 2:24.89.
 
In the men's 110-meter hurdles, Austin Evans set a new PR with a time of 16.19 seconds.  Ralph Jolly followed with a time of 17.16 seconds.
 
Keaton Poole crossed the line at 4:28.92 in the men's 1,500-meter run.  Bogdan Podgaisky finished with a personal best time of 4:53.14.
 
In the women's 1,500-meter run, Jenika Hrushka finished with a personal best time of 5:05.21.
 
Ross Lucia finished the men's hammer toss with a mark of 46.90 meters, while Kenneth VanVorst had a distance of 30.55 meters.
 
In the women's 5,000-meter run, Gabby Cortese timed in at 18:32.06, setting a new personal record with a time that ranks as the sixth-best in program history..  Sydney Davis finished with a time of 20:45.93, followed by Logan McGuirt at 21:35.44.
 
Sarah Mitchell had a mark of 41.15 meters in the women's discus, followed by Cailen Blaire at 38.15 meters.
 
Mitchell Brown clocked in at 16:17.03 in the men's 5,000-meter run.
 
In the women's 100-meter hurdles, Ashleigh Cleveland timed in at 16.19 seconds.
 
Amanda Hall finished the women's 200-meter dash with a time of 29.94 seconds.
 
Ezekiel Martin completed the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:25.33.
 
In the women's 100-meter dash, Kira Ramsey clocked in at 12.86 seconds, while Maya Mallory finished with a time of 13.59 seconds.
 
The men's 4x100-meter relay team of Mason Marshall, Chase Thornhill, Carlos Williams, and Austin Billiot timed in at 41.70 seconds, the second fastest result in GWU history, just missing the school record by .03 seconds.
 
In the women's 4x100-meter relay, the team of Kira Ramsey, Karin Sastre, Maya Mallory, and Diviana Forrest finished with a time of 49.06 seconds.
 
The women's 4x400-meter relay team of Diviana Forrest, Hannah Sparacio, Taylor Hotchkiss, and Ashleigh Cleveland clocked in at 4:10.59.
 
The team of Carlos Williams, Chase Thornhill, Patrick Sastre, and Josh Parks finished the men's 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:24.74.
 
Next up for the Runnin' Bulldogs is the 2018 Appalachian Outdoor Meet, place April 28-29 at Appalachian State University's Kidd Brewer Stadium.
